LAS VEGAS — Quintin Dailey, who played his last three NBA seasons with the Sonics, has died in Las Vegas. He was 49.

The Clark County Coroner's Office on Tuesday confirmed Dailey's death to The Associated Press. The office said the former University of San Francisco All-American died naturally of hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

Dailey's death was first reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Dailey played 10 seasons in the NBA and was selected to the 1982-83 All-Rookie team. He averaged 14.1 points as a pro. His last 71 NBA games were with the Sonics, who waived him in December 1991.

Dailey pleaded guilty in 1982 to attempted assault on a USF nursing student and received three years' probation. Original charges included attempted assault with intent to rape. In August 1982, shortly after Dailey was sentenced, and in the midst of NCAA inquiries, USF shut down its program. The Dons didn't restart it until the 1985-86 season.

In 1990, as a Sonic, Dailey expressed frustration his troubles at USF had continued to follow him.

"Sometimes, I think I'll be glad when basketball is over for me, because people bring that up," Dailey told The Seattle Times. "I hope it will end. I've grown up.

"Everyone makes me remember that; I think that's wrong. Why do they want to keep the fires going? I know I caused pain for others, but that happened eight years ago."

Dailey worked as a supervisor at a community center in Las Vegas for at-risk youth.

USF officials said Dailey is survived by his daughter, Quincy, and son Quintin, a junior guard for Eastern Michigan.
