This is some sort of cruel joke, but the IRS has announced a special Valentine’s Day gift to nearly 50 million tax filers: a delayed start to tax season. Because of the tax cut deal signed late in December, the IRS needs a little extra time to get ready. (It is with some irony that I note that the IRS is totally fine providing extensions for themselves, but a little less generous with taxpayers!)

TOWN OF KINGSTON DWI: Philip W. Hathaway, 46, of Olivebridge was arrested Saturday at 1:18 p.m. by state police at Ulster and charged with two counts of misdemeanor drunken driving and three motor vehicle infractions. He was issued tickets to appear in Kingston Town Court.
• DWI: Patricia A. Trippiedi, 53, of Surprise was arrested Saturday at 11:30 p.m. by state police at Catskill and charged with misdemeanor drunken driving and misdemeanor aggravated drunken driving. She was held by police pending further proceedings.
