He also charmed viewers with his adorable family, including his breast cancer survivor mom.
But it isn't the first time Schulz has pursued his music dream. Billboard reports that Schulz recorded an album as a teenager -- actually, at a mere 14 years of age -- that was released by Texas-based independent label BSW Records.
We've love to get a hold of Schulz's album, titled "Ropin' Dreams," if just for curiosity's sake. We certainly don't think this precludes him from auditioning or competing on "American Idol" -- the album happened nine years ago and was a small, independent release.

Kouandjio (6-7, 322, Hyattsville, Md., DeMatha HS) was considered the best school football player in the country is expected to announce his college choice Wednesday. Auburn has not received his papers; he has only committed to signing and could still change their minds.
Number one in the country selected the No. 1 team in the 2010 season and through the marriage of the two, Auburn can move toward a mythical national championship in recruiting well.
Cyrus Kouandjio, Sporting News Top 100 No. 1 overall player, was thought to be Alabama bound, like his brother Arie Kouandjio was already on the list Crimson Tide. But he pulled off the shocker of the national day of signing when he announced live on television that he would sign his letter of intent with Auburn. Until an official visit in late January, it was not Auburn on his short list of schools.
Cyrus Kouandjio (pronounced joe-Kwande), a 6-foot-7, 320 pounds of offensive linemen DeMatha would have reduced his choices to Alabama, Auburn, Iowa, Miami, New Mexico and USC. And no, it’s not a typo. New Mexico, a program and winning only two games over the past two seasons, remains one of his first choices.
The native of West Africa, who moved to the United States at the age of 4 years, said on several sites it is not leaning toward a school, but one would think should be high on Alabama his list because the brother Arie is a rookie offensive lineman for the Crimson Tide.
Cyrus Kouandjio of Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha High School will announce his college choice today that football players across the country begin signing letters of intent with colleges of their choice.

Just when you thought signing day was in the books, one of the nation's top prospects has a new twist.
DeMatha All-Met offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio was on ESPNU just after noon Wednesday to say he was going to Auburn. But Kouandjio has yet to sign a binding National Letter-of-Intent to make the commitment official and clearly is having second thoughts about the decision, according to a source familiar with the situation.
"I don't know what to say," DeMatha Coach Bill McGregor said. "I don't know if it's a lot of drama about nothing or if he wants to change his mind."
Even this morning, Kouandjio had yet to decide between Auburn and Alabama, where his older brother, Arie, redshirted this past season. McGregor said he advised Kouandjio of the need to reach a decision that he was happy with. "Whatever you want to do, follow your gut and you'll be okay," McGregor said.
Part of Kouandjio's hesitation with Alabama might be a reluctance to compete with his brother to be the Crimson Tide's left tackle. That was a key point of Alabama's recruitment of both players, the opportunity to play the cornerstone position of the offensive line. That worry, though, might be unnecessary, McGregor said.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Arie becomes a center or guard because of his size," McGregor said. "The one who is most likely to be left tackle is Cyrus because of his size. And there is no guarantee he is going to be the left tackle. They all have to compete for Alabama or Auburn."
McGregor plans to revisit the situation with Cyrus Kouandjio later this afternoon, after the lineman retreated to the International House of Pancakes with his teammates who did sign the NLIs.
"I'm as surprised as anyone else right now there are second thoughts," McGregor said while ordering from the drive-thru window at Wendy's. "Once a kid says it [in front of the camera on signing day], that's usually it. It's signing day, I've never had this happen before. You say you're going there, that's where you're going and everybody is happy."

Kim Kardashian got completely naked (NSFW pictures here) except for some silver paint for, I have no idea, some magazine (update - W magazine, apparently). Does it even matter. Hopefully it’s for Halloween. This is easily the best robot costume I’ve ever seen. Kourtney and Kim Take New York" Sunday, we see Kardashian's meltdown as she gets the photos from the full-frontal photo shoot she did covered in silver paint

"I'm more naked here than I was in my Playboy," she sobbed.
While all this s was unfolding on TV, Kardashian was walking the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles. And at least one stylist thought she could have done
The new show “revolves around dueling corporate management consulting firms,” and is described as a “dark comedy.” But would you expect anything else from Showtime? It sounds interesting and with the planned cast, this pilot sounds like one you won’t want to miss.
Who will Bell play?
Bell’s character is Jeannie, and she is described as “a razor-sharp Brown grad who reluctantly finds herself attracted to her co-worker Marty (Cheadle).” Of course there needs to be some romance, and this sounds like it’s going to result in a love-hate match-up. This is just what a comedy series needs, and that’s bound to bring in a few laughs.
Besides her voice on Gossip Girl, Kristen Bell hasn’t had a role on television in a couple of years. She guest starred on Party Down for two episodes in 2009 and 2010, but before that, her last television role was on Heroes in 2008. Though she has done well in a few movies (and has a few planned for the next couple of years), it will be nice to see her back on TV.
